I am now offering one hour consultations via Zoom (preferred) or Skype (if we must).  I am NOT currently offering regular coaching or month to month program monitoring.

Topics I am most able to cover are:

  1. Training: I am happy to do basic training program setup
  2. Exercise Technique (you will be able to upload video on the questionnaire)
  3. Nutrition: I am happy to do basic nutrition program setup (no meal plans)
  4. Supplementation
  5. Women’s issues and physiology

Topics I am not able to address:

  1. Performance enhancing drugs (except perhaps some fat loss drugs)
  2. Specific medical conditions

After you make your purchase, you will receive an email with the link to fill out a pre-consultation questionnaire within 24 hours.  If it does not arrive, please check your spam/trash folder.  If it has still not arrived, contact me at support

After you fill out your questionnaire, I will send you the link to schedule the consultation via Zoom or Skype.  If I have a particular backlog, I will contact you to let you know how long it may be before I can schedule the consultation.

I will also record the Zoom/Skype call which I will make available to you in case you want to revisit it.

If for any reason, I do not feel that I can adequately address your questions or situation, I will contact you to refund your order.  When possible, I will provide a referral to someone I feel has the expertise to do so.

I am only able to offer refunds on this product if requests are made prior to the consultation itself.

    Ridiculously excellent value for money.
    Finally, you can consult Lyle McDonald online and benefit from his decades of experience in training people to achieve their goals. Highly recommenced for no-nonsense, practical advice.

    I had a positive experience talking with Lyle. He is very responsive and patient and will answer ALL your questions. Note I highly recommend having a list of questions to ask him before consulting with him as you’ll have a better experience.

    He looked through my meal plan which I came up with, my work out routine, and told me what to do when (if) I hit my next plateau (refeed or carb cycle).

    Finally, he took extra time to review my very strange back injury case.

    Note that you may go over him with by 5-15 minutes, which is generally good IMO as that means he cares enough to answer all your questions.

    I’ll probably reconnect with him again in 2-3 months. The only thing he should do to improve is get a better webcam. The quality of the video isn’t super great if he plans on doing video consultations. A 1080p would be nice so that the recording look nice, but whatever that is a minor detail.

    Also, I recommend checking out his youtube videos of people interviewing Lyle, they are informative.

    I had an incredibly instructive consultation with Lyle where we went over goal specific nutrition (including addressing my hang ups about increasing dietary fat intakes) and addressing getting back into weight training where I got a suggestion that was a real light bulb moment for me in terms of how to use the first 4-6 weeks back more efficiently.

    The consultation also covered longer term building other things (specifically running) into training and how you might build up to and sequence the different types of training in terms of maintenance and specialization blocks as body weight got to a point wear joint pounding would be tolerable.

    At a point where I certainly felt lost in my training or how to tackle regaining the performance lost over the UK lock down, getting to tap into Lyle’s experience from the scientific, training and life perspective has given me the confidence to structure and look forward to ‘strapping in’ for the next 6 months of training.

    Would definitely recommend and will most likely check in again.

    This was an excellent opportunity and experience for me.
    You’re not talking to an internet blogger here, but an actual professional who KNOWS his research!
    Lyle let me know very soon after the pre-call questionnaire which areas I talked about that would be useful for him to address and which areas were not. He’s not going to waste any of your time, so give him the same courtesy. It was extremely useful for me to have some specific questions or topics to address (even just 3 to start with, others may come up along the way) going into the call because Lyle has such extensive and very practical, solid knowledge in nutrition, training, women’s physiology. He has a TON of knowledge that is well worth studying in his books and podcasts, but is
    excellent about getting right into the information that is useful for the individual and explaining why it’s useful for the individual’s context – as long as YOU know the areas you want to better understand. Do your homework and give it some solid thought. Have a notepad ready. We were able to get through a lot of useful topics and questions and it didn’t feel rushed even for a second.
    Lyle is very cool, easy to talk to, and totally brilliant.

    Go for it.

    My consultation with Lyle was some of the best money I’ve spent in a long time.
    I’m a long time follower of Lyle’s work and this was the icing on the cake.
    Lyle was incredibly friendly and professional. I came in with questions and my own little conundrum and he answered all of them and offered his insight about my problem. I truly believe his advice gave me the answers I was looking for! He spent a lot of time covering everything I wanted to talk about and also covered things I didn’t think about. I never felt rushed and he even asked me if there was anything else I’d like to go over after my hour was up.
    The best part was, the very next morning, he emailed me the entire video PLUS a separate written breakdown of his recommendations of exactly what I needed to do. He was jotting down notes along the way so this breakdown was tailor made for my situation and goals. I will be putting his advice to work right away and plan on following up with another consult once I hit my current target. Thank you, Lyle! -Matt

    Lyle’s consultation and advisory was stellar. He was attentive, thorough, and truly sought to understand. His consulting questionnaire guides the session so as stated in other reviews, I recommend taking your time completing it and outline all of your questions to be prepared as possible. Lyle gave recommendations around supplements, strength training and women’s issues that likely only he could given his vast knowledge and extensive scope of expertise. Can’t recommend highly enough.

    I’m already bigger and ripped! Lyle is the real deal sharing his advice on evidence back science. He is a true coach, not some brainwashed trainer. I have been practicing Lyle’s principles since 1996. He stays very current and on top of all of the good research not the b******* research out there.
    You need to understand, the information he gives you, will be a lifetime of advice for you to expand.

    I really enjoyed my consult with Lyle. I’ve been following him for close to a decade, so it was really great to sit down and discuss some topics with him. He gave some great suggestions and I feel like I’m better off now for having done my consultation. If you’re on the fence, I’d recommend that you do it. Prepare well with whatever questions you’d like to address and I’m sure that Lyle will be able to get you started down the right path. He was also very personable and enjoyable to chat with. I hope to follow up with him in the future.

    Completely satisfied with the consultation! After finding his work in 2009 (RFL, then UD2) I never thought I would have a one on one “face to face” conversation with him! OF COURSE I will follow his recommendations to the letter and will have a second consultation with him once Goal #1 has been achieved. Work every penny!

    As someone who has followed Lyle’s work over the years, I jumped at the opportunity for a personal consult. I purchased three sessions and recently wrapped my first. He did not disappoint!

    Other reviews have touched on what to expect logistically – quick communication turnarounds, no nonsense approach, videos and notes follow up, etc. – so I won’t dwell on his professionalism. Instead I wanted to share my personal opinion on who should pull the trigger on spending a solid chunk of money for Lyle’s time.

    For those who are considering the investment, I would suggest an honest look at your personal journey. If you’re a beginner who wants to lose fat / gain muscle / gain mass, I would recommend grabbing any one of his books, or peruse the articles on this site instead. Lyle’s published work is comprehensive in scope and advice, and available for free/smaller sum. It’s not that Lyle can’t do beginner programming, but that doesn’t fully squeeze the value out of the money you’re spending.

    The best bang for your buck comes from mining knowledge from Lyle that others can’t give you, and that is deep subject matter expertise rooted in hard science. His knowledge comes from years and years of research and experience. There’s a difference in being fluent in a textbook, and being the person who wrote the textbook.

    That means if you’ve tried a diet or a protocol or a program, and you’re able to articulate what worked and what didn’t, Lyle is best positioned to help you solve for what didn’t work. It means if you’re getting the same advice from trainers / dietitians that’s not working, he can at least point you in the right direction. He’s the expert you want to call in when you need that final push to set you on a path to success.

    If you have a sniffly nose, most of the time it’s a cold, and you start treating it by seeing a nurse or your primary physician. But if that sniffly nose isn’t going away, isn’t responding to meds, and suddenly you develop a rash; then you call in the specialist. Lyle is House, and you don’t have lupus.

    I would say Lyle opening himself up for online consulting is one of the highlights to come out of the dumpster fire that is 2020.

    I jumped on the opportunity to learn directly from Lyle the moment I learned he was offering consultations.
    When you consider how expensive personal training sessions are; this price is a steal, and the meathead at your local LA Fitness is giving you advice based on his lifting magazine subscriptions.
    Lyle was attentive, professional, personable, and I’m finally confident with his advice to feel like I’m not spinning my tires or risking injury/burnout.
    10/10, would recommend to a friend and I’m scheduling a follow-up in the near future!

    Absolutely worth every penny! Note that if you are starting from scratch (fitness/nutrition/health goals/etc.) you will probably get more generalized advice, so be as prepared as possible! In other words, you wouldn’t take a big box of receipts to a CPA on April 14th and expect to get far, right?? That said, I think everyone can gain a lot of great insight from Lyle regardless of your current comfort level with tracking, from newbie to experienced. I am a coach and have a strong background in health sciences and nutrition, but I was spinning my wheels trying to “coach myself”. I got some great, very individualized feedback on how to structure things to meet my goals, with info that will serve me for the next several months! Lyle also gave some great tips on options going forward (i.e. if I want to focus on X, do Y) vs. just generic recommendations or plans. Highly recommend!

    I signed up for a consult with Lyle as a powerlifter who had an extremely truncated timeline for cutting quite a bit of weight, for competitive reasons. During the call, Lyle was thorough, professional, empathetic, and conversational. He laid out different options to account for variation in how the cut might proceed, which did allay my anxieties about the task – something that I think required foresight on his part! And even after the consult, he told me to follow up if I had trouble, and connected his lifter with me to help with some more troubleshooting and reminders. I definitely felt supported in tackling my cut and had a numerical game plan thanks to the consult.

    Look no further if you’re questing for the absolute best value for consulting. I’ve been a fan of Lyle McDonald’s RFL handbook ever since I got the first edition long long ago. When I saw that he offered consultations, I immediately signed up for an hour consult. I’ve been through many types of diets and workout protocols in my lifetime, some which worked great back in my 20’s but not so great now. I filled out the questionnaire with as many items I could that I wanted addressed with Lyle: whether my goal to 10% bodyfat in a short timeframe was asinine, concerns about an old workout protocol I could do versus just hammer out RFL to reach my goal, etc. The full consultation was not only recorded, but Lyle took excellent notes for me to refer back to. Now I have a template of what to do exactly, and how long this will likely take to reach my goal.

    RFL should be a universal recommendation for anyone wishing to drop weight off and get healthier. Yeah the diet might be tough, but pain is temporary when it comes to achieving great things.

    Finally – all the questions I had about the best way to get to my body goals have been answered! I’ve prepared quite a list of questions on nutritition + how it affects my training (I run) and Lyle patiently answered them all – AND provided me with notes after the consult!
    For those who consider the consultation – I think it’s best to read some of Lyle’s books and articles beforehand, measure your body fat %, track food intake w/macros just to know your starting point, and then address specific questions to Lyle.
